Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Compliance
The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) regulations are being implemented around the globe - in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, among other continents and countries.
OSHA published an updated Hazard Communications standard in March 2012, The new standard incorporates the major elements of the GHS. A three year transitional period is expected, which will allow companies to have enough time to fully implement the new standards in their facilities
Starting in January, 2014 manufacturers, distributors, and employers working with, storing or transporting chemicals in the U.S. must train their employees or face possible fines from OSHA.
These are the important dates to know:
- December 1, 2013 – Employees Trained - sign up for training now
- June 1, 2015 – Comply with modified provisions
- December 1, 2015 – Can no longer ship products with old labels
- June 1, 2016 – Update workplace labeling
