Visual devices are used to make sure the proper settings are made during setup, and to verify that the equipment remains centerlined for optimal performance during operation. 

The use of labels on pushbuttons, switches and other operator controls helps to prevent mistakes from being made during quick changeovers. 

And labels on pressure gauges and oil sight tubes makes it easy to identify abnormal operating conditions at a glance.  This serves to minimize variability, improve equipment reliability, and simplify root cause analysis when troubleshooting.
