RFID & MIL-STD-129P Overview

Contract Clauses

Separate Contract Clauses Call for UID & RFID:

  • If your contract has a clause that refers to DFARS 252.211-7003, Item Identification and Valuation, you need to comply with MIL-STD-130N.
  • If your contract has a clause that refers to DFARS 252.211-7006, Radio Frequency Identification, you need to comply with MIL-STD-129P.
  • Contracts often include both.

What is the difference between UID & RFID Policies?

The UID Policy deals with identifying and marking individual items with a UII, as specified in MIL-STD-130N. RFID deals with placing passive RFID tags to the packaging of items at the case and pallet level. If your contract calls for both, you may use UID to uniquely identify your items and RFID when packaging those items to send to the DoD.

Are UID & RFID Constructs the Same?

No, the constructs and encoding schemes used for UID are not the same for RFID. The serial number of the RFID tag, does not refer to the serial number of the product being shipped. The supplier assigns a serial number to represent a specific RFID tag.

For more information regarding RFID, please visit the RFID website at: www.dodrfid.org

For RFID label markings, please refer to MIL-STD-129P.
