Step 4: Lockout/Tagout Employee Training and Communication
The fourth and final step of a successful lockout program is to train employees and promote awareness of safe work practices
Assured safety and efficiency are ultimately made possible by training your employees on the correct lockout practices.
Train employees to protect themselves and others during machine servicing and maintenance by educating them on your lockout tagout policy and the established lockout procedures.
OSHA regulations dictate:
- The employer shall provide training to ensure that the purpose and function of the energy control program are understood by employees
- The employer shall certify that the employee training has been accomplished and is being kept up-to-date
You will have three categories of employees that will require formal training for lockout: “Authorized,” “Affected” and “Other.”
