HandiMark Upgrade Version 2.04 and 1.10 Upgrade

The electronic file of the Brady HandiMark® Firmware Upgrade Version 2.04 and 1.10 is available for download.
UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS
- Make sure your HandiMark™ Portable Label Maker is turned off and that the HandiMark battery is fully charged if you are running off battery power.
- Connect the 9-pin plug on the cable to the serial port located on the back of the PC. Connect the other end of the cable to the "phone style" connector on the HandiMark printer.
- Insert the upgrade disk into the floppy drive. Then click the START button on your computer and select RUN.
- In the screen that appears on the PC, type "A:\HMupgrade.exe". Click "Finish", then "Yes" to allow the upgrade program to be placed in the new folder "C:\HMupgrade". Click the START button and select RUN again, type "C:\HMupgrade\hmosupgd2_04.exe", then click OK. The HandiMark Model Selection window appears.
- There are two different versions of firmware that can be installed. The HandiMark Model Selection window allows you to select the version of hardware in your HandiMark, which in turn determines the firmware that will be installed. Power up your HandiMark printer and take note of the firmware version number that appears briefly on the first line (for example, the line "HandiMark v 1.10" indicates you have version 1.10 firmware while "HandiMark v 2.04" indicates you have version v2.04 firmware).
- If the firmware version displayed at initial power up is between 0.00 and 1.99, manually select your HandiMark model by selecting "HandiMark model 1" on the PC. If the firmware version displayed at initial power up is 2.00 or greater, manually select your HandiMark model by selecting "HandiMark model 2" on the PC. Click the NEXT button on the HandiMark Model Selection window.
- When the first Printer Upgrade Wizard screen appears on the PC, hold down the ENTER key on the HandiMark printer while turning the printer on to put it into upgrade mode. The message "START UPGRADE UTILITY ON PC" will appear on the printer.
- Back at the PC, click NEXT in the Printer Upgrade Wizard screen.
- In the screen that appears, select the serial port where the HandiMark printer is connected. The port is usually COM 1. If an error message appears saying "CHECK PRINTER AND PC COM SETTINGS AND MAKE SURE PRINTER IS IN UPGRADE MODE", try selecting COM 2, then COM 3, and so on, until you find the correct port.
- Click the NEXT button.
- On the next screen press FINISH. This will initiate the upgrade process, which will take 4-8 minutes.
- When the upgrade is complete the PC will display "UPGRADE WAS SUCCESSFUL". Click OK.
- Turn your HandiMark printer off, and then back on again. "Version 1.10" should appear in the scroll menu if you have a model 1 HandiMark; otherwise, you should see "Version 2.04" indicating you have a model 2 HandiMark.
- If your HandiMark display is blank except for a single underscore character and the unit is unresponsive, you selected the wrong firmware version. To correct this problem, simply put your HandiMark into upgrade mode again and run the program "C:\HMupgrade\hmosupgd2_04.exe" again, but select the other HandiMark model on the HandiMark Model Selection window.
- When the new version string successfully displays on the HandiMark scroll menu as it is powered on, you know your HandiMark printer is upgraded and ready for use!
