BMP®61 Printer Software Update

Get the most out of your new labels by updating your BMP®61 Printer

We have recently made updates to our BMP61 printer label cartridges to enhance printing capabilities. To use newly purchased label cartridges you may need to do a software update, use the process below.

Update printer if:

  • Printer displays "invalid media" or other media errors.
  • Printer is not detecting a custom part.
  • Printer is not detecting a part listed as compatible.

What you need:

  • Your BMP61 Label Printer + a USB flash drive OR
  • Your BMP61 Label Printer + Brady Workstation

Follow these steps to update via USB flash drive:

Step 1:  Download the latest Printer Label Library file on your computer.

Step 2:  Open downloads folder, right click file and choose “Extract all”.

Step 3:  Copy the Excel and BIN file to your USB flash drive. They must be in the root of the flash drive, not within a folder.

Step 4:  Remove the flash drive, insert into your BMP61 printer and turn the printer on.

Step 5:  The printer will detect the upgrade files and show a screen prompt. Select "Upgrade" and hit “Enter” .

Step 6:  Select “Yes” on the next prompt to confirm upgrade.

Step 7:  You may be prompted with an option to delete files from the flash drive. Select “Ignore” if you have additional BMP61 printers to update, otherwise select “Delete”.

Step 8:  Remove the flash drive from printer and reboot the printer.

IMPORTANT: The printer will continue to try to update the firmware if you do not remove the flash drive.

Step 9:  Press FN + Setup and navigate to “Config” to confirm the YB database has been updated.

Follow these steps to update via Brady Workstation:

Step 1:  Turn on BMP61 Printer and connect it to your computer via a USB cable.

Step 2:  Open Brady Workstation on your computer.

Step 3:  Select "Printer Updates" tab.

Step 4:  Your BMP61 should show in the "Brady Printers" section. Click the "Update" button.

After clicking the "Printer Updates" tab, the screen shows your Brady printers, along with a button to update each if applicable.

Step 5:  Select "Update Now" on the Printer Label Library tab. Select "OK" to confirm the update.

IMPORTANT: Make sure the printer is plugged in so that the printer does not shut off during the update. Do not unplug the USB cable or printer power cable.
After clicking the update button, a modal appears. It has a button to update while connected to a printer, a button to update without connecting to a printer, and a button to browse for Wi-Fi networks.

Step 6:  Once the update is complete, reboot the printer.
